Frequently Asked Questions
You can find me at 1361 Barrington Street in downtown Halifax. I'm very thankful to be partnered with Kind Bridal and share a beautiful space with the boutique. It is a historic building in downtown Halifax two blocks from the waterfront with plenty of street parking available. If you're from out of town, the train station is very close and there are plenty of hotels around as well.
Alterations and customization are the two services I perform most often, but absolutely not the only ones! I have begun an online store that I will be adding to over the coming months with fun accessories for brides and their wedding parties.
I also plan to have a sample stock of bridalwear accessories to go with your gown. These accessories can be tried on during your bridal consultation with Kind Bridal, or in a separate accessories consultation appointment with me at a later date. I also offer a design service to create a custom gown, dress, or accessories made to measure.
My pricing is based completely on the amount of work, time, and supplies it takes to complete any given project. This makes it difficult to price any given alteration until the dress is being worn at the appointment. Generally, for brides, it's suggested to reserve $300-800 for alterations.
After pinning, I will explain the total cost of the alterations, and payment will be due before I begin work. There is no obligation to commit before payment. Often I will divide work between multiple appointments, and will only accept payment for work being down that round, as opposed to all at once.
If you have specific questions about pricing and budget, simply reach out and I will be more than happy to answer them.
This again depends on the amount of work I have already in queue, as well as the kind of work that needs to be done as some tasks and some gowns require different techniques and expertise. When possible, second appointments to either fit check the garment or to continue work will be scheduled two to three weeks after our initial appointment.
It would be best to book alterations roughly two to three months before the wedding date to ensure enough time for multiple rounds of alterations.
I cannot stress enough the importance of booking with plenty of time. This is for your peace of mind as well as to make sure I am able to go through my workload in a reasonable time.
If you require a quick turnaround, please call or email me directly so we can talk about the new expectations. Let me know how soon the event is, what work you believe needs to be done, and I will see if I am able to complete the work in time. I may ask for pictures, or even call you in for a quick consultation to see the construction of the garment, all to make absolutely sure if I can or cannot complete the work. If I accept the work, there will be a rush fee involved for any turnarounds less than 10 days.
My specialty is with bridalwear, but I accept any client attending any formal event. This includes brides and bridesmaids as well as mother-of-the-bride/groom, flower girls and wedding guests. Also included are clients attending graduation, homecoming, prom, galas, you name it!
I even accept alteration work for grooms, groomsmen, and most men's suits!
Bring them in! I count formal and work pants under my specialty, and have no problem pinning hems at the end of our original appointment if time allows. Please note that I can only offer these services for formal pants. I am not able to work with anything made from demin, lycra/spandex leggings, or fur. If you're unsure, you're welcome to reach out ahead of time
Since most of the products in my store are made to measure, please give me 6-8 weeks to pattern, sew, and package up your order, potentially longer if there are more than three products in your order. I am always grateful to see orders come in, however since I am the sole seamstress, these orders will be made while also working on other clients.
A longer order time does not apply if you are only ordering hair accessories!
